✶ A HOME THAT REMEMBERS WHERE IT CAME FROM ✶
At the heart of Casona Azul Llue is a transatlantic tale of return and renewal. In 1905, a determined Asturian emigrant sailed to Cuba, opened a hardware store, and returned to Llue with enough to build three homes for his sisters. One of those homes - our casa - is still standing, its iconic blue galería watching over the village for more than a century. It gives the house not only its beloved name, but also its character.
Lovingly restored over two years by an Australian interior designer and her Spanish artist husband, this 1905 Indianos house now blends the warmth of the past with sustainable luxury and personal touches throughout. Local artisans helped carefully preserve its essence, while contemporary comforts make it a home you’ll want to return to.
✶ YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME ✶
Step into a space that feels both timeless and expansive. Unlike the small-room layout of traditional Spanish houses, this casa surprises with open-plan living beneath original chestnut beams. The downstairs flows as one generous space combining lounge, dining, and a gourmet kitchen with Bosch appliances - ideal for shared cooking and connection.
Upstairs, a wide hallway links three tranquil bedrooms. Two oversized bedrooms feature king-size beds (180x200cm), mountain views, and handcrafted furnishings. A third room designed for children includes a bunk bed, miniature kitchen, and playful details. At the heart of the upper floor, a built-in reading nook offers a perfect place to unwind between it all.
Whether you're two couples seeking privacy, a family with young traversa, or a couple who enjoys space to spread out, the flexible layout accommodates up to six guests in comfort.
✶ ECO-CONSCIOUS DESIGN ✶
Crafted with care and consciousness, this home features breathable natural materials that support comfort and wellbeing: clay walls, 8cm cork insulation, lime-finished stone, and organic oils and varnishes. Chestnut planks from a nearby stable were transformed into custom furniture, while brass fixtures age beautifully with time. The result is a low-toxicity environment ideal for wellness-minded travellers and families with children.
Thermal comfort is built in - no need for air conditioning. The house stays cool in summer and warm in winter, thanks to smart passive design and radiant underfloor heating powered by aerothermal energy.
✶ PRIVATE GROUNDS & MOUNTAIN VIEWS ✶
Set on a 3,000m² plot enclosed by traditional stone walls, the outdoor space reflects the same values as the house itself: simplicity, intention, and quiet beauty. Fruit trees; fig, lemon, pear - dot the grounds, which also include a traditional hórreo (granary) and small greenhouse.
The covered porch beneath the galería is the soul of outdoor living.

Handmade seating crafted from reclaimed wood, including the original workman’s bench - invites morning coffees, long reads, and slow evenings with a glass of cider as village life gently unfolds beyond.

Llue is perfectly placed to enjoy both coast and mountain. You’re just 10 minutes from La Griega and La Espasa beaches, the colorful fishing port of Lastres, and nearby towns like Colunga and Villaviciosa.
Further afield, Gijón (22 minutes), Oviedo (38 minutes), and the Picos de Europa are easy day trips. Whether you’re exploring Covadonga lakes, hiking forest trails, or reading by the fire, this home is your base for authentic Asturian discovery.
